Porting Your Number to MagicJack & MagicJack Plus –
A Tip You MUST Know
I was excited when I found out that I could finally port my existing number I I bought the new magic Jack Plus.
I am pretty computer friendly so set up went smoothly.
After installing I received an email from Magic Jack informing me that it could take up to 10 business days to complete the porting process. I thought to myself ‘ no big deal, I’ll just reconnect the landline till i know for sure that the porting was complete. The next day I got a call on my cell and the person told me they tried my home phone first but it just kept ringing . I called my son and had him reinstall the magic jack to the router. He was able to call out but when I tried to call in it did not work.
My next step was to contact Magic Jack. They have live chat but you better be a VERY patient person to get through to someone and then when they do start interacting with you pretend you are working with a snail.
Long story short what they don’t tell you is the inability to receive calls once the process of porting your number begins is part of the normal process. I was told it depends on how long it takes for them to get connected with your original carrier on if it will take the full 10 days or not.
Bottom Line – Be ready to be without the ability to receive in coming calls till the process is complete. 10 days is how long it can ultimately take. I also asked if there was any forwarding or call message system that could be used during this time and I was told “No”.
**Update since original post**
My phone ported by the beginning of the following week and call quality is great!
On the positive side when we tried the call that went out the reception was fine as though it was calling out on a landline.
And they do have the feature that you can have 911 locate where your phone number is at. Just remember that if you take the magic Jack with you on a trip you will want to revise that information until you get back home.
